Step 2: The Approval Process
The relative success of the company is based on the factor of how quickly clients progress through the process into homeownership. Therefore, the quicker homes are transitioned, the greater the return on the capital invested.
Credit Repair
- After an application has been submitted, it is individually reviewed by the Credit Repair Specialist (CRS). The CRS carefully reviews each item on the merged credit report looking for patterns of abuse of credit, incorrect information, expired claims and other useful information.
- Often, the CRS will conduct a phone interview with the prospective client to assess the personality and disposition of the individual. When completed, the CRS rates the client’s ability to improve on a scale of one to six. This pre-approval recommendation combined with those of other professionals is ultimately brought before the committee for review and final approval.
Mortgage Qualification
- After the CRS has reviewed the client’s credit file, the application is reviewed by the Mortgage Specialist (MS). The MS screens the client from a financing perspective looking for the potential obstacles that would prevent financing at the completion of the program. Depending on the issues found, the MS will give a favorable or unfavorable review, combined with recommendation of things that must be addressed before financing could be completed.
- This list proves to be invaluable as it provides a road map to prepare the client for “A” grade financing throughout the time the client is in the HELP Program.
Ultimately, the goal is to move the client through the process of improvement in as little time as possible. This is accomplished through a thorough screening and a tangible plan that addresses all the obstacles to the applicant’s self-sufficiency. The HELP Program brings the pieces of this process together and focuses its resources on improving the applicant’s standing in the financial world.
The approval committee, comprised of the three principals of the company, reviews the recommendations of both the Credit Repair Specialist and the Mortgage Specialist and then reviews the applicant themselves. After a systematic review of each applicant’s situation, a decision is reached regarding that individual’s admittance into the program. Those who are accepted are immediately informed, and called in for a second meeting.
