Boise, Idaho

Boise has recently become one of the western states’ hottest towns largely because of its growing economy and a trend of many Americans to move out west. In this brief overview, we will break down what Boise is and why people are moving here.

Geography

Virtually everyone has heard of Boise and know that it is Idaho’s capital city, but where is it? Boise is located in Ada county. It is about 350 miles from Salt Lake City, 425 miles from Spokane, and 475 miles from Salem.

Demographics

According to the 2005 estimate, there are 208,000 residents within the Boise city limits. In the greater metropolitan area, including three of Idaho’s five largest cities, there are about 525,000 residents. The city has many families with an average of 3.03 persons per family.

Economy

Boise has a rapidly growing economy. Many large companies, including Albertsons, Micron Technology, Hewlett-Packard, and Microsoft, either have their headquarters or significant facilities in the area. Aiding in the rapid growth of the economy is the Boise airport, where Delta, Southwest, and United Airlines are major transporters.

Many sources (e.g., Inc. Magazine; KPMG, an auditing firm; Bay Area Economic Forum, and National Policy Research Council) have named Boise among the top cities in the country in which to do business and in May of 2005, Forbes Magazine rated Boise as the best place for business and careers. Boise forecasts that by the year 2009, 27.9% of all households will have an annual income between $75,000 and $149,999.

Attractions

Aside from the growing economy and the many opportunities that presents, Boise has much to offer in the way of entertainment. For the recreational personality one could jog or bike along the Boise River Greenbelt. This is a pathway starting at Lucky Peak Reservoir in the east and traveling through the city, well beyond the western limits. It passes through many of the city parks, following the Boise River. In the winter, Bogus Basin Ski Resort is just 16 miles outside of Boise, offering 2,600 acres of skiable terrain.

If you are a sports fan, Boise State University and other independent teams have games ranging from basketball and soccer to football and gymnastics.

Are you convinced yet?

As you can see from the information provided in this overview, Boise has a lot happening and a very promising future. This is a great place to live. But, if you don’t believe us, come and see for yourself.
